The English Parliament is angered by Charles II's cabal of
ministers and their support of Louis XIV's war against the (Protestant)
Netherlands. In reaction Parliament passes a Test
Act forcing public renunciation of Roman Catholic doctrines in order
to hold public office. The Baron of Chudleigh, secretary of state, is
forced to resign. So is the Duke of York, King Charles II's brother
James.

Parliament also passes a Navigation Act taxing goods traded between
North American plantations. Not very popular, that.

The Duke of York marries Mary of Modena, raising the possibility
of more than one future Catholic monarch, and thus alarming Parliament.

Jan Sobiseki leads the Polish army to annihilate the
invading Turkish army at Chocim (Khotin). However, low pay
causes many desertions, and news of the King's death sends everyone home
to prepare for the upcoming election.

Mahratta leader Shivaji controls enough of Maharashtra to
have himself crowned king.

War of the three feudatories: Generals Geng Zhongming, Shang Kexi
and Wu Sangui control the south of China, as a reward for helping in the
Qing takeover in the first place, then later on, helping
emperor Kangxi suppress the last Ming claimants and peasant
revolts. Their power, their demands for tribute, and the expectation
of allowing their sons to inherit their domains become too much for the
Emperor, and he abolishes their offices and invades their domains in Anhui
and Hunan. Wu and Geng join in rebellion. Shang stays loyal to the Emperor,
but his son has him imprisoned, and joins as well.
