Part of the U.K
rail network, the East coast mainline is the high speed rail link connecting
London Kings Cross to
Edinburgh. The line itself is maintained by
Railtrack, but train services on the line are provided by
GNER.
The line runs along the east coast of
England passing through (among others)
Peterborough,
Doncaster,
York and
Newcastle on its way north to Edinburgh. The line carries both electric and diesel locomotives including high speed
trains on loan from
Eurostar, the company that provides services through the
channel tunnel.
