The most
common place where
thread count is tracked is in
bedsheets. Ordinary sheets tend to fall in the 160-180 thread count range. "Nice" sheets fall from 200 to 250. The highest count that is easy to find runs up to about 330 thread count (
Macy's carries these). You can special order up to 600 count sheets.
Having owned many of these (160/180/200/220/280/300/600), I'd recommend buying something between 280 and 350 - for the money, it's the best deal. Good 300+ count sheet sets might cost $200; Getting up to 600 count costs about $600 and takes eight weeks for delivery. 600 count sheets are very nice, but for most people, the luxury isn't worth the expense.
