There are 4 brain wave states that range from the
high amplitude,
low frequency delta to the
low amplitude,
high frequency beta. These states range from deep dreamless sleep to high arousal.
The following four brain
wave states are common to the
human species:
Humans of all ages experience the same brain waves.
Research has found that all levels of brain waves exist in everyone at all times, even though one dominates depending on the activity level. While somebody is an aroused state and exhibiting a
beta brain wave pattern, that person's brain also exhibits a component of
alpha,
theta and
delta, even though these may be present only at a trace level.
When you are waking up from a deep sleep in preparation for getting up, your brain wave frequencies will increase through the different stages of brain wave activity. They will increase from
delta to
theta and then to
alpha and when the alarm goes off, into
beta.
