Extremely rare
basketball feat where a player gets double-digit totals in 4 of 5 statistic categories (
points,
rebounds,
steals,
blocks,
assists) in one game.
There have been only 4 quadruple doubles in NBA history. They are listed below:
Date Player Team Stats
10/18/74 Nate Thurmond Chicago 22 pts, 14 rebs, 13 assts, 12 bks
2/18/86 Alvin Robertson San Antonio 20 pts, 11 rebs, 10 assts, 10 stls
3/29/90 Hakeem Olajuwon Houston 18 pts, 16 rebs, 10 assts, 11 bks
2/17/94 David Robinson San Antonio 34 pts, 10 rebs, 10 assts, 10 bks
It's important to note that the NBA did not officially tabulate steals nor blocks until the 1973-1974 season. Therefore, quadruple doubles were not even possible before that time.
For example, Oscar Robertson AVERAGED a triple double during the 1961-1962 season, so it's possible he would have had a quadruple double or two in his career if stats were kept in steals and blocks at the time.
In theory, a quintuple double is possible. However, considering there's been only 4 quadruple doubles in nearly 30 years, a quintuple double is virtually impossible.
Spelling/noding note: "quadruple double" is often written as "quadruple-double" (with a hyphen), but to stay consistent with the previously created triple double and double double, this node has been created without a hyphen.
