British term for what everyone else presumably calls a
payphone. Operated by British Telecom or BT, they used to be
iconic big red metal and glass boxes, now extensively
defunct and/or sold on
postcards to tourists who think they're
cute. Replace by soulless plastic devices in
day-glo colours. But hey, what can you do?
Uses:
Creative drug-taking; as a measure of
prosperity in urban centres (check how many of the little
glass window panes have been put through;
urinal (for
drunks, especially in
Chester - unpleasant).
